If you are a collector of iron minerals and have tried to collect pieces from Minnesota, you know how hard it can be to find specimens from there. A little under a year ago while talking to an old rockhound friend, he mentioned he had worked at the Forster mine when he was younger and I asked him if ever collected anything from there. He pulled out a couple of flats of hematite, goethite and psilomelane and my jaw dropped. This is one of those pieces.
A nice botryoidal hematite on top a large chunk of "taconite" (silicified iron ore) from the Forster Mine in St. Louis County, Minnesota.
Approximate size: 121x93x73
Weight: 1465 grams
