Very interesting Callaghanite specimen from Houghton Co, MI. This piece appears to be Callaghanite that grew on a piece of copper that formed between two fire bricks, and will include a stand. Recently we had acquired some pieces that we believe to be from the Champion #4 Mine in Painesdale, MI. The specimens displayed an odd blue coating on firebrick. It was not until recently through a combination of SEM-EDS analysis, EMP-WDS analysis, and Raman Spectroscopy that these blue coatings were conclusively identified as Callaghanite; a rare copper-magnesium mineral that is a new species in Michigan.
